Our first pup in 1971
Our puppies have went as far North as Whitehorse in the Yukon, and as far South as Guatamala. Mostly they go to their new homes in our province of Alberta. Our kennels are by Innisfail, and are close to Calgary and Edmonton, and very close to Red Deer. Some of our Shepherds were Police Service Dogs and some were search and rescue. Whether you want an obedience / companion dog, and-or a dog that could be encouraged to have strong protective instincts, if you look at our adults, you will see that is what we are producing.
I teach my Shepherds basic obedience and their pedigrees are full of Schutzhund trained Sires and Dams. As you will see in some of our pictures, we have lots of room to give our dogs exercise and fun!
We are doing dog training on Saturdays. The lessons are mostly obedience and some protection. The dogs enjoy the challenge of learning. Dogs are pack animals, and like leadership. If you aren't the leader, they will take over, right?

Paper training your pup
Get a crate. Not too large, some crates come with a divider that can be taken out when you need more size. Puppy will start to enjoy a private place where he or she can rest. Be responsible, take pup out first thing in morning, and often during the day. The pup will be out with you a lot, but when you have to go out, rather than leave the pup loose in house, put it in the kennel. The pup will quickly learn that he does his business outside!
Food for your dog.
Food quality is very important. Dogs are from the Wolf family and they are omnivores. That means they eat meat but will also eat berries and vegetables. Cats are true carnivores and only eat meat. In the last fifty years, cooked dry food (kibble) has been introduced, with most of it originating from companies that used to make horse and cattle feeds. So it was only natural that they put grains into their dog foods as the main item. Then they would add the left over animal parts from slaughter plants, as well as road kill, and any other cheap forms of meat or fish they had available. Of course these scraps had to be preserved, and they use a preservative that can cause cancer. This product has been taken out of all human food.
Now there are companies that make dog food with human grade meat, and very little grains. They also use natural preservatives, and include fruits and vegetables and proper amounts of good fatty acids like Omega 6 and 3. This quality of dog food is cheaper in the long run, by keeping your dog healthier.
Some people now are feeding their dog fresh frozen meat with fruit and vegetables and natural preservatives. They mix it up from scratch, or purchase from a multitude of suppliers. This is ultimately the best, as cooking takes some of the nutrients out of food.
