We live in central Alberta one and half hours to Calgary international airport. We raised German Shepherd Dogs and Standardbred horses in the 70's and 80's.In1974 we went to Germany and were able to bring home a great dog named "Basso von der Balver Hoehle". He was with us until he was 15 years old.Three of his sons went to the City of Lethbridge, and in training, passed with high in class. One of his sons was the first search and rescue dog with the Banff Park Warden Service. He had to learn to fly under a helicopter. His pups went all across Canada, the lower 48 states, even Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Guatamala. Then we concentrated on the horses and were lucky enough to produce many champions and track record holders. Our best stallion was"Lemoyne Hanover" that we bought from the Hanover Shoe Farm yearling auction. Click image to see larger picture We raised Standardbred Horses for 20 years. In the spring when our days task were finished, we would go out to the mare and foal field and watch the babies play. Very relaxing. Most yearlings were sold; others we would train and send them to race if they were fast enough. All this experience taught us that you generally need a good mom to raise a good baby. Same is true in raising dogs. Also it is a plus to have a strong pedigree and that is why all our German Shepherd dogs ancestors have been approved for breeding under the tough West German Standards. The Mini Poodles have some or all Champions and Obedience Titles in their pedigrees. Basso von der Balver Hoehle - SchH3 AD Kkl Ia V-rated was born December 22, 1971.
